Time the ball from the moment it leaves the bowler's hand to the moment it reaches the batter, then divide the distance it travelled by that time. On a full-size pitch the ball covers roughly 17.7 metres, because the bowler releases it a stride in front of the crease. A delivery timed at 0.68 seconds is about 58 mph.
Under 11s and under 13s usually bowl 35 to 50 mph. Under 15s and under 17s sit between 50 and 65 mph. Senior club bowlers are commonly 60 to 75 mph, county quicks 78 to 85 mph, and international express bowlers 88 mph and above.
